    Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about 3D laser scanning.

    What is 3D laser scanning?+
3D laser scanning (LiDAR) uses laser beams to capture millions of precise measurements per second, creating a detailed 3D digital representation called a point cloud of a physical space. This data is then used to produce accurate as-built drawings, BIM models, and digital twins.
    How accurate is the scanning?+
Our scanners achieve sub-inch accuracy at typical ranges. This level of precision far exceeds traditional hand-measurement methods and ensures your architectural or engineering designs are based on reality, not approximations.
What file formats do you deliver?+
We deliver in whatever format your team needs: Revit (.rvt), AutoCAD (.dwg), point cloud formats (E57, RCS, RCP), and we can also provide web-based viewers for stakeholders who don't have design software.
How long does a scan take?+
Field scanning typically takes 1-2 days for a standard commercial building. Complex multi-floor or industrial sites may take 3-5 days. Processing and modeling usually adds 1-3 weeks depending on the level of detail (LOD) required.
Do we need to vacate the building during scanning?+
No. Our scanning process is completely non-invasive and does not require the space to be empty. We work around occupants with minimal disruption. The scanner is quiet and requires no physical contact with surfaces.
What types of projects benefit from scanning?+
Renovations, historic preservation, facility management, MEP coordination, tenant improvements, and any project where accurate existing conditions are critical. Scanning eliminates costly return visits and design errors caused by outdated or inaccurate paper drawings.
