The Challenge
An 18-unit apartment building needed all balcony railings replaced to meet updated California building code requirements for guardrail height and load capacity. The existing wrought iron railings were 36 inches tall — 6 inches below current code minimum.
Our Solution
We designed and installed a modern tempered glass railing system with stainless steel posts and top rails at the code-required 42-inch height. All structural attachments were engineered and inspected to meet load requirements. The project was completed in phases to allow residents continued balcony access.
Results
- All 18 balconies now meet current guardrail code requirements
- Modern glass design improved building aesthetics significantly
- Residents maintained balcony access throughout the project
- Passed final city inspection on first attempt
